Too much sugar consumption has varying effects to the human body. Sugar is a hepatotoxin that metabolizes directly into fat. Too much intake of sugary products can cause many harmful diseases to our body such as diabetes that becomes a popular illness nowadays. Chances are you already know that eating more sugar isn’t good for you. Yet you’re probably still overdoing it.

Excessive sugar is harmful to the body as it can cause spikes in blood glucose, obesity, different kind of diseases.  Your body sends so many undeniable signals when you eat too much sugar. Sugar is obviously not good for you. Sugar can negatively affect your body in many ways. It gives your brain a huge surge of a feel-good chemical called dopamine. Because whole foods like fruits and veggies don’t cause the brain to release as much dopamine, your brain starts to need more and more sugar to get that same feeling of pleasure.

Your liver metabolizes alcohol the same way as sugar, as both serve as substrates for converting dietary carbohydrates into fat. Alzheimer’s disease is another deadly illness that can arise from enormous sugar consumption.

If you have joint pain, here’s more reason to lay off the candy. Eating lots of sweets worsens joint pain because of the inflammation they cause in the body. “Sugar-sweetened beverages, particularly soda, provide little nutritional benefit and increase weight gain. It also promotes the risk of diabetes, fractures, and dental cavities,” the researchers concluded. 

When you eat anything with glucose in it or basic carb building blocks, your body will release insulin. Insulin helps your body process glucose into energy. When a person consumes too much sugar at once, a large release of insulin happens and you can develop hypoglycemia or insulin resistance. A sugary diet can create an inflammatory response in your body, which in turn, can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression.

Men should consume no more than 36g of added sugar a day, the equivalent of nine teaspoons and 628 kilojoules, the AHA recommends. Eating some sugar isn’t going to kill you but consuming too much added sugar puts your body at risk for deadly diseases. Sugary drinks don’t keep you feeling full like naturally sweet foods do, so you’re more likely to go overboard with a sweetened beverage, which, of course, packs in the extra kilojoules. 

The high intake of sugar has its consequences and it can lead to tooth decay, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, liver problems, kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, and blindness. These are just some conditions that are associated with excess sugar consumption, which is why it is generally considered bad for your health.
